 SMSC is a global, fabless semiconductor company serving a diversified set of applications in the consumer electronics, automotive infotainment, computing and industrial markets. The Company develops semi-custom and application specific standard products that allow users to access or transfer their digital assets with convenience and speed. SMSC has developed leadership positions in providing analog/mixed signal solutions to many of the world’s leading OEMs and ODMs, through products employing one or more of the following technologies: Ethernet, ARCNET, MOST®, Hi-Speed USB or various analog sensors and transceivers. Products include USB 2.0 hubs and mass storage devices, embedded controllers and companion devices, Ethernet and embedded networking devices, networking co-processors and in-vehicle interface controllers optimized to deliver high bandwidth entertainment and navigation content.
Customers
SMSC sells its ICs worldwide, tailoring what are often complex, multi-function solutions to each of our customer's exacting requirements. The Company's semiconductor products provide connectivity, networking, or embedded control solutions for a variety of high-speed communication, computing, consumer electronics, industrial control, or automotive infotainment applications. Today, SMSC has evolved to become a key semiconductor supplier to consumer electronics companies such as Toshiba, Sony, Lucent, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens and Thomson; auto makers such as Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Daimler, Porsche, Saab and Volvo; and leaders in the PC industry including Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, NEC, Intel, AMD, Fujitsu, Asus, Quanta, Compal and many more.
SMSC works closely with leaders in the PC industry to provide integrated circuits that our customers can use to make their products more affordable and able to support the latest industry standards. Service and Support
SMSC takes pride in the close customer relations that it has enjoyed through the years. We try to make the design-in process as easy as possible for our customers. To do this, SMSC offers a wide variety of support tools including evaluation boards, sample BIOS, diagnostics' programs, sample schematics and PCB layout files, driver programs, data sheets, industry-standard specifications and other documentation. These tools are readily available from SMSC's regional sales offices and sales representatives.
In addition to these tools, SMSC maintains a worldwide network of Field Application Engineers. SMSC provides these engineers with the latest product information and training so that they can answer customer questions and resolve technical issues. The Field Application Engineers are backed up by highly qualified Factory Application Engineers who work intensively with both the customer's and SMSC's factory design and product engineers.
Engineering
SMSC employs engineers with a wide range of experience in MOS/VLSI circuit design, from experienced industry veterans to new engineers recently graduated from the top universities. Its engineering team is built on a wide range of digital, mixed-signal and analog expertise, enabling SMSC to customize solutions for a diverse set of applications including power management and environmental monitoring and control in desktop and notebook PCs, as well as for a vast array of consumer applications utilizing USB 2.0 and Ethernet connectivity. The Company's engineering design centers are strategically located in New York, Texas and Arizona to take full advantage of the technological expertise found in each area and to closely cater to a widespread base of customers located across the country.
Test
SMSC is a fabless semiconductor company and outsources its manufacturing to foundries in Singapore, Taiwan and Korea. SMSC does maintain a significant test capability at its New York facility where all of its quality assurance tests and much of its production testing is performed. Some production testing and all packaging and assembly is performed by outside contractors who supply their product and services to conform to SMSC's documented procurement specifications.
