Common Calculations Used in Determining Chemical Concentrations
Parts Per Million (PPM):
Parts per million is a measure of concentrations that is used where low levels of concentration are significant. The PPM value is equivalent to the absolute fractional amount multiplied by one million.
Example of Parts Per Million:
Weight of significant concentration such as Copper lead frame = 0.000675 grams
Total Weight of the device is 0.1265 grams
To calculate ppm 0.000675 / 0.1265 x 1,000,000 = 5336 ppm
As a percentage 0.1% is 1000 ppm or 1% is 10,000 ppm
Percentage of Weight:
Weight of material = 0.000675 grams
Total Weight of device = 0.1265 grams
Percentage calculation is 0.000675 / 0.1265 = x 100 = 0.5336%
